Nearly Half of Earthquake Victims Were Children

Bheriganga: Heartbreaking statistics reveal that almost half of the victims of the earthquake that struck on November 3 were children. Data obtained from the police reports indicates that out of the 157 people killed in the earthquake, 78 were children.

Jajarkot bore the tragic burden of 50 child fatalities, while 28 children perished in Rukum West as a result of the earthquake, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Roka. Namraj Bhattarai, the district police chief, shared that out of the 52 lives lost in the quake in Rukum West, a staggering 28 were children. He expressed the distressing fact that "most of the deceased in Rukum West were children, and even two 10-month-old infants lost their lives."

According to the Jajarkot police, among the 105 individuals who lost their lives in Jajarkot, 50 were children, 33 were women, and 18 were men. In Rukum West, the earthquake claimed the lives of 16 women and eight men.
